The goal in chiropractic health month is to bring awareness, education, and promotion of non-drug approaches to pain and other health conditions.
When people think about chiropractic, they tend to think, “low back pain” or “popping” but it is more than that. Chiropractic is the science and art of adjusting the spine to free vertebrae from a restriction, or what we call a chiropractic subluxation, which helps to decrease interference on the nervous system, thus allowing the body to function optimally. Adjustments help to decrease tension on the muscles and the joints which helps to decrease pain, increase mobility, prevent injury all without the use of pharmaceuticals.
Having a natural approach to healthcare and pain is a must. We currently live in a society were many are using a pill to fix every ache, pain and ailment and this is considered the norm. It is estimated that over three million Americans suffer from opioid overuse. There are dangerous side effects to many medications and ultimately they are only masking the problem, not actually getting to the route cause of the issue. In chiropractic, we look at the body as a whole, not just a condition. We are able to bring the symptoms or concerns back to the spine and help the body to heal itself.
Chiropractic is more than just for pain. It is extremely beneficial in all aspects of life including, pregnancy, birth and beyond. When a baby is in the womb they are crammed and torqued and during the birth process external stressors are placed on the mom as well as the baby. This creates those subluxations in the spine putting tension on the nervus system. When there is stress on the nervous system the body may be in that sympathetic state, i.e. “fight or flight” Which will not allow that body to operate to its fullest potential and a baby may present with symptoms such as colic, reflux, constipation, torticollis, plagiocephaly etc. Using gentle and specific adjustments, chiropractic can help balance the body and enhance the paratympanic state, i.e. “rest and digest” and the baby will be more comfortable overall, sleep better, eat better and just be a happier baby. As children get older then are crawling, walking, tumbling, playing and that has an effect on their spine and development. If we can address the subluxations early, we can help to prevent injury, help with growing pains, and help to increase their immune function. When the spine is in proper ailment that body just works and feels better!
