What Is the Webster Technique?

The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment to a woman’s pelvic region which reduces the interference to the nervous system and creates balance in the pelvic structures, muscles and ligaments. By reducing nervous system interference, improved function of the pelvic muscles and ligaments lead to the reduction of constraint in the woman’s uterus, allowing the baby to get into the best possible position for birth.

This technique does not turn babies or attempt to manipulate fetal positioning. Instead, it helps align the mother’s pelvis and release soft tissue tension, allowing the baby to settle naturally into the best position on their own.

BENEFITS OF THE WEBSTER TECHNIQUE CHIROPRACTIC

By releasing tension and making sure your pelvis is aligned, the goal is to create more space for your baby to move and grow. Creating this space, reducing tension, and aligning your body can all help to:

    • Reduce lower back, hip, and pelvic pain
    • Ease round ligament discomfort
    • Promote better posture and mobility
    • Support natural fetal positioning
    • Decrease tension that may interfere with labor
    • Help with the potential for a breech birth
    • Lower the amount of time spent in labor

        HOW THE WEBSTER TECHNIQUE WORKS

At your first session, we will first go over and discuss your medical history, past pregnancies, concerns, and overall health. We will then determine if the Webster Technique is the right choice for you. Once we are ready to begin a session, you can typically expect:

        • Laying face down on our chiropractic table using the drop table technique to fit and release any tension on your belly
        • Leg length analysis to assess pelvic alignment
        • Assessment for round ligament tenderness and tightness.
        • Adjustments to gently correct pelvic alignment
        • Mild muscle work to release the sacral ligaments is performed by holding pressure on the sacrotubercle ligament

After the adjustment is delivered the doctor will check the leg length again. Corrections are done by using very minimal pressure to release the tension on the ligament. Most patients report a sense of relief after each visit. Some light soreness and tenderness can also occur following the treatment.

Is The Webster Technique Right for You?

The Webster Technique is used when a misaligned pelvis causes the tightening and torsion of specific pelvis muscles and ligaments. It is these tense muscles and ligaments and their constraining effect on the uterus that prevent the baby from achieving the best possible position for birth.

If you have had a previous baby who was born breech, have a family history of babies being born breech, or are currently pregnant and have bodily pain, the Webster Technique might be right for you. WHEN TO START THE WEBSTER TECHNIQUE CHIROPRACTIC

We recommend starting care as soon as you know you’re pregnant, but it’s never too late to begin. Even in the third trimester, the Webster Technique can make a meaningful difference in your comfort and alignment. We also invite your birth partner to join you during sessions so we can show them gentle massage and pressure techniques they can use to support you during labor.
